Assignment 2 - “Black is Beautiful—Lighting and the Decisive Moment”

2 shots under different lighting positions:

Empty frame

The empty frame was taken under hard lighting from the top. It gave the object more focus compared the negative(black) spaces which took up more than half the photo. Also the overall form and patterns are clearly shown on the object.

The 2nd photo was also taken with hard lighting from the side. This gave the frame a more 3-dimensional look due to the shadow cast inside the frame. The folds of the cloth, too, added details to the picture.

Decisive Moments:

Strumming it right

Striking it right, at that exact moment, creates precise and rhythmic beats and tunes from the bass guitar.
(The expression on the guitarist was captured and slow shutter speed was set to captured the movements of the hands.)

Sing sing sing

With the music alone, vocals came which creates a more obvious melody to songs.
(a close-up shot of the singer and the stage lighting helped created focus on the subject.)

The band

& the harmonies together form a band. Singing in sync, adding a little more flavour to the songs each time.
(a bigger picture of the entire stage setting, giving it depth, and activities happening.)

The bird and the bee

and lyrics are added meanings. Sometimes, touching the hearts of many.
(a full body shot of the singer and her surroundings and gestures.)

Assignment 1 – “Extraordinary out of the Ordinary- Architecture and Me”

Exterior

Day: The National Museum gives off this feeling/image of formality and conventional. However, the arts and culture within aren’t bound by this fact and are beyond ones imagination.

(front-eastern wing view, a little foreground shot with the open sky as background and the building centered. )

Formality

Night: The entire architecture softens by the lighting when night falls.

(alternate side view of building, with high ISO and focusing on the facade and line details on columns and windows)

Majestic

Interior

Day: The strong contrast in colour between the timber-flooring to everything else makes it rather a hollow shell and the mood of sadness and loneliness.

(slight perspective showing the shape of seating and only wanting to capture a one-direction light from one window)

Emptied

Night: Ambience is strongly enhanced with the warm lighting blending every object into one, making it whole and comfortable setting.

(almost-same-angle as picture above, capturing the down-lighting effect and shadows.)

This is me
